“What one generation finds ridiculous, the next accepts; and the third shudders when it looks back on what the first did.”

Aptly labelled the world’s most influential living philosopher, Peter Singer is by far the most widely read contemporary philosopher in existence. His work, covering a variety of topics, focuses on what it means to live an ethical life.

Peter has shaped his career around the idea of reducing suffering and maximising happiness. This served as the basis for his 2009 book The Life You Can Save, which inspired the Effective Altruism movement.

All net proceeds from An Evening with Peter Singer will be directly donated to the non-profit of the same name, The Life You Can Save, to aid people in extreme poverty in low-income countries. Each attendee will also receive a free copy of the book.

Throughout his career Peter has written a number of works that have helped shape modern attitudes and ethics. He is perhaps best known for 1975’s Animal Liberation, which served as the foundation for the animal rights movement, vegetarianism and veganism. He will be discussing this on top of his advocacy for euthanasia, abortion and a whole host of other topics.

This event will consist of an hour-long conversation between Peter and the event host followed by a Q&A session.

Please note this event has been rescheduled; original date WED 10 JUN 2020 new date WED 14 APR 2021.
