UPLIFT in association with Lock the Gate is excited to announce Australia’s biggest concert to support rural communities uniting to protect their farmlands from fracking and unconventional gas mining
Some of the biggest names in the Australian entertainment industry including international guest artists will unite to support this important community issue. Sydney’s iconic music venue, The Enmore Theatre will be the anchor for this exciting event, which will expand into a vibrant street party vibe along the Enmore Rd precinct with five music venues, numerous cafes and businesses, all supporting Rock The Gate on Sunday November 23rd 2014.
Australia’s popular singer- songwriter Pete Murray, iconic hip hop act The Herd, blues guitar award winner Ash Grunwald, rock legends Tex Perkins, queen of the Australian roots scene Natalie Pa’apa’a from Blue King Brown, US roots stars Nahko and Trevor Hall and indigenous dub act Diesel n’ Dub, will be joined by Comedians, indigenous Dancers and slam poets for a truly historic event. The event will also feature community members who have been affected by the fracking industry plus speakers from Lock the Gate alliance. Satellite venues across Enmore Rd will present an eclectic mix of music from alt-country, blues, jazz and electronica. With more artists coming on board to pledge their support this event will be a day to remember!
Recently the anti-CSG blockade at Bentley, near Lismore in Northern NSW, Australia had an amazing victory. Over 3000 people gathered there to protect this precious farmland, forcing Metgasco to call off its fracking operation. Bentley was the largest blockade in the history of Australia and has been already likened to the Eureka blockade of 1854. A new CSG plan is now threatening the Hunter Valley and the Illawarra catchment area near Sydney. The time is NOW to inform all Australians about this important issue.
Right now in Australia 53% of our country is under exploration license for unconventional gas. The international community is beginning to be vocal in condemning the Australian government’s policy of facilitating the expansion of the fossil fuel industry to the detriment of the planet. Now the farming community is joining with scientists, indigenous communities and environmentalists in an effort to protect our aquifers and farmlands from this toxic industry.
Other entertainers who are vocal in their support of the anti Coal Seam Gas campaign include Reg Mombasa, the late Doc Neeson OAM, Jack Thompson OAM, Paul McCartney in the UK, Wolfmother and Yoko Ono in the USA. Yoko has personally endorsed our campaign.
