Taking a break from his duties as front man of unearthly Icelandic quartet SIGUR RÓS, singer JÓN ‘JÓNSI’ ÞÓR BIRGISSON returns to Australia this winter to deliver songs from his gorgeously warm, tenderly passionate debut solo record GO.

JÓNSI’s debut solo offering GO, is like a garden growing toward the sun. His voice has never been more impressive or breathtakingly arranged. The album warms itself on the vibrant arrangements and piano of Nico Muhly (the Philip Glass protégé known for his work with Bjork, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy) who suffuses each song with a cinematic scope that flickers with flute, brass, strings, and skittering electronics. While Samuli’s militaristic drumming woven into an extraordinary, endlessly changing musical landscape.
Those with an ear to the ground will have already caught the wonderful track BOY LILIKOI. The vocal harmonies collapse over each other in seemingly endless fashion, drums thunder and skip in equal measure, and flutes are playfully light as they flutter around the ever-growing strings.
Then there’s GO DO, the bubbling opening track in which Birgisson trills in his sweetest, most joyous voice, ‘You should always know
that we can do anything’ gives so much hope, you can’t help but smile.
While JÓNSI’s latest single, ANIMAL ARITHMETIC is summery, vibrant and an explosive splash of drums, keyboards and woodwind instruments. It has catchy lyrics, stating, ‘Every time everyone everything is full of life, everyday everywhere people are so alive.’
