Comedy king Jerry Lewis may be past 80 but he’s still going strong when it comes to putting his mouth where he wants your money to be – helping fight Muscular Dystrophy.
Jerry is bringing his special brand of comedy magic to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Monday 21 September for one night only, where he will be joined on stage by a host of Australia’s comedy royalty.
Paul McDermott, Mikey Robins, Peter Berner, Fiona O’Loughlin, Tom Gleeson, Kitty Flanagan are right behind Jerry in his Laugh For Life Concert – with further announcements to be made.
Laugh For Life will feature Jerry’s riveting tales, accompanied by a full orchestra, as well as comedy sketches and song – all the talents that the world has loved from this magnificent octogenarian performer for many decades. Jerry is coming back to Australia specifically to support Muscular Dystrophy Foundation Australia (MDFA) in their fund raising and awareness efforts to fight this devastating muscle wasting disease.
He is credited with creating the ‘telethon’ concept which he has hosted annually to raise more than $65 million a year for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in America, and it’s estimated that he has raised more than $2 billion since 1966.
Muscular Dystrophy causes progressive deterioration in muscle strength and function, leaving many with the disorder wheelchair-bound from their early teens, and with life expectancy only to early adulthood.
So why does a man who could be taking it easy and putting his feet up make the trip to Australia for MDFA?
“Jerry has been a tireless and incredible ambassador and advocate for Muscular Dystrophy and he is passionate about helping the children, young people and adults who live this disorder” explained David Jack, CEO of MDFA.
Generations of comedy lovers adored Jerry’s partnership with the legendary Dean Martin, and will get to relive those days, as well as finding that Jerry has not forgotten that staggering, uncoordinated adolescent walk that put his audience in stitches.
Jerry has a simple way of describing what makes his show work.
“I get paid for doing what children are punished for – I‘ve had great success being a total idiot,” he quipped.
So grab your laughing gear and book your ticket now for the comedy night of nights when Jerry Lewis and your favourite Australian comedy geniuses strut their stuff in Laugh For Life at the Enmore Theatre.
